The Electronic Federal Tax Payment System Removes Default Date

-  We want to pass on a quick update on the E-Tax Payment System. Beginning November 15, 2012, the EFTPS will no longer default to the current tax period when entering payment information; users will have to select, from a drop-down menu, the tax period to which they want the payment applied. Users will also have to select a settlement date from a pop-up calendar. Payments must be scheduled by 8 p.m. ET, the day before the due date for payments to be considered timely with the IRS. The Payment History page will now include the pop-up calendar feature to help select settlement start and end dates and simplify transaction searches.

The hope is that by selecting your own dates it will reduce the chance of errors. This might not be a big change, but we wanted to make sure all of our client's have a heads up on the new system.
